How to Find Your UAN in 2026: 3 Official Methods to Track Your EPF Account

Published: Oct 19, 2026 • Reviewed by Senior Compliance Retainer Panel

The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique 12-digit identifier issued by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) that centralizes all your provident fund accounts under a single umbrella. Without your UAN, you cannot check your EPF balance, update your KYC, transfer funds between employers, or file a withdrawal claim under the EPF Scheme, 2026.

If you have lost or forgotten your UAN, the EPFO provides three official channels to retrieve it without needing to physically visit a regional office.

Method 1: Fetch UAN via the EPFO Member Portal

If your current mobile number is registered with your EPF account, you can pull your UAN directly from the unified portal database.

  1. Step 1: Visit the official EPFO Unified Member Portal (unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in).
  2. Step 2: Click on the Know Your UAN link located under the "Important Links" section on the bottom right of the login screen.
  3. Step 3: Enter your registered mobile number and the CAPTCHA code, then click Request OTP.
  4. Step 4: Input the OTP sent to your mobile device and validate.
  5. Step 5: Enter your exact Name, Date of Birth, and choose one identification parameter (Aadhaar, PAN, or Member ID) to verify your identity.
  6. Step 6: Click Show My UAN. Your 12-digit UAN will display on the screen and be sent to you via SMS.

Method 2: Retrieve UAN from Employer Records or Payslips

If your mobile number has changed or is not linked to your EPF profile, the online portal method will fail. In this scenario, your employer is the most reliable source.

  • Check Your Salary Slip: Statutory compliance requires employers to print the employee's UAN and PF Member ID directly on monthly payslips.
  • Consult HR/Payroll: Your company's HR or payroll department has access to the EPFO Employer Portal. They can immediately retrieve your UAN by searching your name or employee ID in their active EPF roster.
  • Review Onboarding Documents: Check your initial employment welcome emails or the PF declaration form (Form 11) submitted when you joined the company.

Method 3: Use the UMANG App

The Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG) integrates EPFO services directly into your smartphone.

  1. Step 1: Download the official UMANG app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  2. Step 2: Register or log in using your mobile number.
  3. Step 3: Navigate to All Services > Social Security > EPFO.
  4. Step 4: Tap on the Employee Centric Services module, then select Know Your UAN.
  5. Step 5: Enter your Aadhaar number or PAN, along with your Date of Birth.
  6. Step 6: Authenticate the request via OTP. Once verified, the app will display your UAN.

Next Steps: UAN Activation via Aadhaar Face Authentication

Finding your UAN is only the first step; it must be activated before you can use the EPFO online services. Under the latest EPFO digital upgrades, members can now activate their UAN securely using Aadhaar Face Authentication Technology (FAT) via the UMANG and AadhaarFaceRD apps. This eliminates the dependency on outdated mobile numbers or employer approvals by verifying your biometric identity directly against the UIDAI database.

Once your UAN is active, immediately verify your KYC (Aadhaar, PAN, and Bank Account) and file your e-nomination to ensure your retirement corpus is fully accessible for future advances or final settlements.
